Thankfully, CBD is a safe and well-tolerated compound. It is non-intoxicating and has minimal side effects, so even if you inadvertently take a larger serving than planned, you can rest assured that you will not experience dangerous side effects.
With that said, taking extra caution to ensure you always take ideal CBD servings will maximize the natural benefits of the daily supplement and minimize the minor side effects that can arise. Here we discuss more about the safety of CBD and how to make sure you don’t take more than you should.
CBD Shown to Be Safe and Well Tolerated
CBD has shown to be safe and non-toxic in humans, even when high amounts are consumed. Researchers have found evidence that “high doses of up to 1,500 mg/day of CBD are reportedly well tolerated in humans.” That is a far greater amount than what is present in the suggested servings of Dixie Botanicals® CBD products.
It is not possible to fatally overdose on CBD. To this day, there have never been any fatal overdoses with cannabis, including CBD oil.
With that said, taking high amounts of CBD may increase the risk of the few known minor side effects of CBD. If taking high amounts of CBD, you may experience:
- Dry mouth
- Low blood pressure
- Drowsiness or wakefulness
For those on any medications, it’s also important to note that CBD swallowed and ingested may influence how your liver breaks down traditional drugs. There is some evidence that CBD temporarily deactivates some specific liver enzymes that hinder the breakdown of certain medications, allowing those medications to accumulate over time and be more potent.
How Much CBD You Should Take
There is no standardized answer to the question of how much CBD is best. The reality is that everyone’s individual CBD needs vary, and people can respond differently to the supplement.
While the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) would be the most reliable source for this type of information, the federal agency has yet to create any Recommended Daily Intake (RDA) for CBD.

Figuring Out Your Ideal CBD Serving
It takes only a little time to figure out the ideal amount of CBD for you. The motto when setting out to find your perfect CBD serving is to “start low and go slow.”
Begin with a small CBD serving and monitoring how you feel. If you’re opting to vape CBD, for example, you may choose to begin with one or two draws. Use the same serving for several days.
Every week or so, take a slightly larger serving, all the while monitoring how you’re responding to the supplement. Continue working your way up gradually until you reach the suggested serving size.
Once there, you can decide whether that suggested serving size works for you or if you should continue increasing your intake. Some find a smaller serving is best, while others find greater benefit with a larger serving.
