Like many athletes and active people around the world, you’ve likely heard about the benefits of CBD oil and decided that CBD supplements are for you. However, you may be among those who are worried that some CBD oil products contain small amounts of THC.
Except for those who need to avoid consuming any and all THC because of concerns about violating sports organization or employment policies, adding CBD oil that contains a little bit of THC is safe.
Still, some people have reasons for needing CBD oil products that are THC-free. Below are the differences between CBD oil supplements with and without THC, as well as an explanation of what the two types offer so that you can pick the one that’s right for you.
What is CBD? What is THC?
CBD (cannabidiol) and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) are the two most well known and recognized compounds found in cannabis. They are known as cannabinoids, a class of active compounds that interact with the body’s native systems. There are more than 100 different cannabinoids in cannabis that scientists know about, but CBD and THC are the most abundant.
All cannabinoids, including CBD and THC, interact with the body through the endocannabinoid system, a vital signaling network that regulates many of your body’s functions and keeps them in check. They stimulate the endocannabinoid system and support its efforts by interacting with the system’s two receptors – CB1 and CB2.
While CBD and THC vary in how they interact with the two receptors, the most notable difference between them is whether they will cause you to get high when consumed.
Found in high levels in marijuana, THC is psychoactive, meaning it will cause a high. CBD, on the other hand, is most abundant in hemp and will not cause the user to experience a high. In fact, CBD has the capability of suppressing the euphoric properties of THC when the two are consumed together.
Are CBD Oil Supplements Containing THC Harmful?
If you were to consume high levels of THC by inhaling or ingesting marijuana, the compounds would stimulate psychoactive side effects and cause you to get high. You would also experience temporary physical effects like lowered reaction time, memory impairments, and coordination issues.
You don’t have to worry about these types of effects with CBD supplements. CBD oil supplements that are created with hemp contain only trace levels of THC (0.3%), a far smaller amount than what’s needed to cause a high or elicit any other significant side effects. Hemp-derived CBD oil products are safe for everyone.
Whether or not you opt for CBD products that contain small amounts of THC or not is up to you. Dixie Botanicals® offers both CBD supplements that contain a little bit of THC and that are THC-free.
What are the Effects of CBD?
As touched on above, by interacting with the body’s native endocannabinoid system, CBD encourages balance in your systems to help your body runs at its best. This central regulatory network is responsible for maintaining the body’s homeostasis for a wide array of physiological functions, some of which include appetite, metabolism, sleep, mood, and immune response.
CBD is completely non-psychoactive, so unlike THC, it will NOT cause any adverse effects related to your:
- Reaction time
- Sensory awareness
Even at high doses and with chronic use, several studies have shown CBD oil to be well-tolerated and safe for you to consume.
CBD oil supplements that contain trace levels of THC will also not cause any adverse or euphoric effects. The amount of THC in hemp-derived CBD supplements is far below the amount needed to get you high.
Does CBD Work Better With THC?
Full-spectrum CBD oil, extracted from the stalks of hemp, contains CBD compounds, as well as fatty acids, waxes, chlorophyll, essential vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, terpenes, flavonoids, and trace levels of other cannabinoids like THC.
CBD and THC are the most recognized and well-studied cannabinoids found in full-spectrum cannabis oil. In reality, however, these cannabinoids are only two of what scientists have found to be more than 100 cannabinoids and over 400 total compounds in hemp and hemp oil.
Scientists have discovered some evidence suggesting that cannabis-derived cannabinoids, including CBD and THC, are most effective when they’re able to interact with your body as a group, along with all of the plant’s natural compounds.
This theory, called the entourage effect, suggests that all of the hemp-derived compounds work together synergistically, providing even greater natural benefits together. Other researchers are dubious about the theory.
Should You Go With THC or Without?
There are multiple reasons why some people may want to refrain from consuming any and all THC. If you’re a competing athlete, a first responder, or simply interested in avoiding even trace levels of THC for personal reasons, THC-free CBD oil products could be ideal. Because isolated CBD supplements are more concentrated, they’re also more optimal for those interested in a higher daily CBD intake.
Everyone else can feel comfortable and confident in using full-spectrum CBD oil supplements that retain all the cannabinoids naturally found in hemp, including trace levels of THC.
So that you can find the right CBD oil product that fits your needs, Dixie Botanicals® offers both full-spectrum CBD hemp oil supplements that contain trace levels of THC and other cannabinoids, as well as CBD isolate products that are THC-free.
